Our Client, a Leading Business Group having presence at Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Japan & Turkey is looking for Internal Control Specialist at their Baghdad Office. The Internal Control Specialist is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, testing, and monitoring of the organization’s internal control framework, with a primary focus on financial and operational controls. The role involves verifying transactions, assessing control effectiveness, identifying risks, and supporting remediation efforts to ensure compliance, accuracy, and integrity across business processes.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed verification and review of financial transactions, including payments, receipts, cash, and bank transactions, to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper authorization.
- Execute internal control testing to assess the design and operating effectiveness of financial and operational controls.
- Support risk assessments by identifying control gaps, weaknesses, and potential fraud or non-compliance risks.
- Review supporting documentation for transactions to ensure alignment with policies, procedures, contracts, and approval matrices.
- Assist in evaluating segregation of duties, access controls, authorization levels, and data integrity within systems and processes.
- Document control findings clearly, prepare working papers, and maintain proper audit trails.
- Support the development and implementation of corrective action plans in coordination with process owners and follow up on remediation progress.
- Assist the Internal Control Manager and Internal Audit team in investigations related to control breaches, irregularities, or suspected fraud.
- Monitor compliance with internal policies, procedures, and ethical standards and report deviations accordingly.
- Participate in system implementations, process changes, and operational initiatives to ensure controls are embedded from the outset.
- Prepare periodic control reports and summaries for management review.
- Maintain awareness of applicable regulations, internal policies, and best practices related to internal controls and risk management.
Qualification & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in internal control, internal audit, finance, or accounting roles.
- Good understanding of internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO) and financial control principles.
- Ability to analyze transactions, identify anomalies, and assess control effectiveness.
- Strong attention to detail with high standards of accuracy and documentation.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to explain control issues clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP / financial systems.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
- Professional certifications (CIA, CPA, CISA) are an advantage, but not mandatory.
