JOB DESCRIPTION
The College of Dentistry at the American University of Iraq, Baghdad (AUIB) is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Teaching Lab Assistant position. This role is essential to supporting the academic and clinical success of the College by assisting faculty and students in pre-clinical and clinical laboratory settings. The Teaching Lab Assistant will contribute to the delivery of simulation-based and hands-on coursework across a range of dental disciplines, including restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and orthodontics.
The successful candidate will work closely with faculty in facilitating demonstrations, maintaining lab environments, preparing educational materials, and supporting students during practical training. Additionally, this position includes responsibilities in laboratory management, safety, and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering pre-clinical and clinical simulation courses, including demonstration of dental procedures and techniques.
- Support faculty in the preparation and execution of laboratory and simulation exercises.
- Contribute to the development of educational materials, including demonstration videos, laboratory manuals, and sample projects.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, safety, and quality control standards, ensuring compliance with infection control and safety protocols.
- Prepare, sterilize, and organize instruments, dental materials, models, and equipment for laboratory use.
- Support the organization and inventory of laboratory supplies, instruments, and consumables.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining records related to student performance, attendance, and assessments.
- Collaborate with faculty in student placement and tracking for practical experiences.
- Provide technical and logistical support to faculty during research or educational projects.
- Attend staff meetings and other relevant events as required by the Dean or department leadership.
- Perform administrative tasks as necessary and maintain effective communication with faculty, staff, and students.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry (BDS), Dental Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
Education And Experience
- Candidates for this position must have:
- Minimum of 2 years of post-graduation teaching, tutoring, or laboratory experience in a higher education or clinical setting.
- Solid understanding of dental clinical practices, laboratory procedures, and scheduling.
- Familiarity with pre-clinical and clinical training environments, including simulation clinics.
- Strong knowledge of aseptic techniques, infection control, and laboratory safety protocols.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced educational setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and laboratory management systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with the American system of higher education is preferred.
