- The U.S Embassy in Baghdad is seeking eligible and qualified candidates for the position of Executive Chef at the Deputy Chief of Mission’s residence (DCMR). The Chef works under the guidance and supervision of the Deputy Chief of Mission and his/her authorized representatives.
The Chef position can be filled by either an Iraqi National or Third Country National (TCN). The selected candidate must be able to successfully pass the pre-employment medical and security clearance processes.
Job Duties: The Chef is responsible for delivering exceptional culinary experiences for the Employer and their guests. This role requires a highly skilled and creative individual with a passion for fine dining, attention to detail, and the ability to manage all aspects of meal preparation and kitchen operations. The incumbent will plan, prepare, and execute a variety of meals and events, ensuring a 5-star dining experience while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Menu Planning and Meal Preparation:
- Plan and execute menus for 3-to-5-course meals, receptions, breakfasts, luncheons, and other dining occasions.
- Develop creative and innovative recipes tailored to the Employer’s preferences and dietary requirements.
- Prepare and maintain a selection of quick-serve appetizers, cakes, cookies, and other items for teas, coffees, and receptions, ensuring availability for short-notice events.
- Ensure all meals are presented with a 5-star level of quality, taste, and visual appeal.
- Follow all food-handling regulations and safety standards to ensure the highest level of food safety.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen environment, including the pantry, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Ensure compliance with local and international food safety standards.
- Inventory and Procurement:
- Prepare detailed shopping lists for food and beverage items to be purchased locally and internationally.
- Analyze future needs to prevent over-buying or under-buying of ingredients and supplies.
- Collaborate with the Residence Manager to maintain an accurate inventory of food, beverages, and household supplies.
- Track and document all expenses related to food and kitchen operations.
- Assist in the planning and execution of receptions, teas, and other events hosted by the Employer.
- Ensure all food and beverage offerings are of the highest quality and meet the expectations of the Employer and their guests.
- Stay updated on culinary trends and techniques to continuously enhance the dining experience.
- Experiment with new recipes and ingredients to create unique and memorable meals.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Residence Manager and other household staff to ensure seamless coordination of meal service and events.
- Communicate effectively with the Employer to understand preferences, dietary restrictions, and special requests.
Work Location: U.S. Embassy, Baghdad – Deputy Chief of Mission Residence (DCMR).

Employment Type: One-year contract, renewable each year.
Work schedule: The standard work week is defined as eight hours per day, six days per week, with one day off per week, as determined by the Employer. Overtime will be paid if warranted for longer hours due to official events.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in culinary and kitchen operations.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Arabic required.
Annual Bonus: On the one-year anniversary of the effective date of this contract, an Employee who has satisfactorily performed the duties of his/her position as reviewed by the Employer will receive a bonus equal to one month’s base salary.
Meals: Three meals per day will be provided by the Employer either at the residence or dining facility.
Medical Care: Medical care will be provided by the Employer.
Probationary Period: 30 days.
