Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Commis I to join our culinary team in Baghdad, Iraq. As a Commis I, you will play a crucial role in maintaining high standards of food preparation and service in our kitchen, contributing to our commitment to culinary excellence.
- Stock the assigned kitchen with raw materials and ingredients daily
- Prepare mise en place for your assigned station, ensuring all ingredients are ready for service
- Execute basic cooking methods and prepare food items according to standard recipe cards
- Maintain portion control and minimize waste to ensure food cost efficiency
- Adhere to and apply food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP) in all kitchen operations
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Collaborate with kitchen team members to ensure smooth service and high-quality dish preparation
- Assist in cleaning and organizing work areas, utensils, and equipment
- Report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or maintenance needs to the supervisor promptly
- Participate in regular team meetings and training sessions to enhance culinary skills and knowledge
- Contribute to menu development by suggesting ideas based on local ingredients and cuisine trends
Qualifications
- Proficiency in reading and executing recipes accurately
- Solid foundation in various cooking techniques and food preparation methods
- Excellent knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP)
- Familiarity with professional kitchen equipment and related safety precautions
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with kitchen staff and management
- Basic math skills for precise portioning, measuring, and inventory management
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, high-pressure environment
