The Deputy Operations Manager, Southern Iraq (DOM South) supports the Operations Manager, Southern Iraq (OM South) in the day-to-day management of region-wide commercial operations and specified projects.
In addition to the regional role, this position will also act as a project lead and will be required to act as the functional link between Control Risks and the client. Constant liaison with the client and Control Risks’ regional personnel is crucial for this role.
DOM South will be a key figure within a busy and demanding working environment. Control Risks’ southern regional headquarters is a dynamic and rapidly expanding commercial enterprise and the candidate will be required to enhance the existing levels of high operational performance within the operations centre.
The candidate will ideally have a sound background in APT operations and operations management, with direct involvement in the training, development and QA/QC of security teams.
Operational Responsibilities
- Provide OM South with operational tasking support and coordination, ensuring that the project can manage all client operational task requests, utilising the Control Risks’ assets.
- Produce and conduct weekly training programs in accordance with the monthly training directives, also ensuring that training records are being kept up to date.
- Provide cover to the project armed protection team contingent as and when required.
- Coordination of emergency and contingency training exercises and overall management of MERT.
Project Management Responsibilities
- Maintain regular communication with the project’s senior in-country management daily and provide project summary reports weekly.
- Take an active role in implementing project Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensuring the highest possible standards are maintained across the Armed Protection Teams (APTs).
- Ensure that operational and training minimum standards are maintained through the project and regional teams and take an active role in administrative oversight of the local national workforce.
- Proactively meet the changing requirements of clients and comply with all client reporting requirements.
- Plan and co-ordinate daily journey management, by receiving journey requests and formulating a movement schedule with available resources.
- Conduct route analysis and assess threat levels prior to deployment of tasks and be prepared to conduct briefings to APT and client staff during the planning and execution of tasks.
- Monitor HSE performance across the APT’s ensuring safe conduct of duties, reporting all near misses, unsafe acts, and incidents to the project HSE representative.
- Conduct risk assessments, route and venue reports and provide support to Team Leaders (TLs) drafting reports.
Regional Management Responsibilities
- Manage the organizations’ QA/QCs commitments by frequently conducting performance evaluations and audits of security teams task execution on the provision or services, providing written and verbal feedback to security teams and department heads.
- Actively monitor APT performance identifying and reporting complacency or poor performance to OM South, whilst mentoring and supporting teams as and when needed.
- To actively manage TLs and other project leads in performance of operational duties as well as co-ordinate professional development and undertake performance management reviews.
- Administration and coordination of all new commercial team mobilizations in support of operational requirements.
- To deliver and oversee effective training in line with the agreed pre-deployment and post deployment refresher training programs.
- Promote the importance of equipment care and ensure the implementation of the company equipment care policy, maintaining management accountability / responsibility for all contract equipment.
- Collation and dissemination of all operational reporting requirements (daily, weekly, monthly) in support of the operations and headquarter functionalities.
- Responsible for deputising in the absence of OM South, assisting with the coordination of all operational activity within the region ensuring business continuity to the operations department.
- Engage with Dubai based staff to coordinate the international travel of Control Risks’ staff.
Commercial Responsibilities
- To work closely with OM South and the Commercial Manager in monitoring costings, expenditure and adhoc profitability.
- To assist the HR and Compliance Manager in ensuring appropriate allocation and management of human resources for the teams in alignment with employment law and company policy.
