Role Description
This is a full-time role for a Legal Consultant based in Baghdad. The Legal Consultant will handle day-to-day legal tasks for Chinese companies in Iraq, including providing legal advice, assisting with legal issues, and preparing legal documents. The role requires a deep understanding of Iraq’s legal systems and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide legal consultation on Iraqi laws, regulations, and court procedures.
* Advise on cross-border transactions involving Iraq, including corporate setup, compliance, and contracts.
* Draft and review agreements, memoranda, and legal opinions in both Arabic and English.
* Support litigation and arbitration proceedings involving Iraqi law or parties.
* Liaise with Iraqi authorities, local legal counsel, and clients as needed.
* Conduct legal due diligence for investments or business operations in Iraq.
* Monitor changes in Iraqi laws and provide updates and risk assessments to clients and internal teams.
Skills
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Law (Iraq-qualified lawyer preferred).
* Minimum 2 years of experience practicing or advising on Iraqi law, preferably in a corporate or international law firm environment.
* Strong understanding of Iraqi civil, commercial, and criminal legal frameworks.
* Experience with cross-border legal matters is highly preferred.
* Ability to draft legal documents in both Arabic and English.
Skills Required:
* Fluent in Arabic and English (both written and spoken), knowledge of Chinese is desirable but not mandatory.
* Strong legal research, drafting, and advisory skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and client-facing communication.
* High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Ability to work with a diverse team.
